Why publish YOUR book with Legacy Book Publishing? For over 20 years professional authors and hobbyist writers across America have turned to Orlando book publisher Legacy Book Publishing to assist them in turning the dream of their writing project into a reality. During that period, Legacy has published hundreds of fiction and nonfiction books, each created in close cooperation with the author. Do you have an idea for a writing project that you feel has great potential? If so Legacy Book Publishing of Orlando, Florida would like to hear from you.
Conventional Book Publishing can be divided into three areas, each of which offers certain benefits and concerns:
1-Royalty Publishing: An option made unavailable to unknown authors So then, how do you get your book published? 2-Self Publishing: Greater expense with a low chance of success In either case, with or without assistance, any author who attempts to jump into the world of book production without awareness of the many pitfalls and lures is likely to waste a great deal of money and achieve little or no success. 3-Subsidy Publishing: Will you get what you are paying for? There is another option that is somewhat preferred over self-publishing. This is what is known as subsidy publishing or co-publishing. In subsidy publishing both the author and the publisher, team up together to create your book. Each provides financial investment and each provides creative input. This process ensures that your book is created exactly as you had envisioned it, yet published and marketed professionally. Once again the inexperienced author is at a tremendous disadvantage. Yes, you will receive your books at a price lower than if using a Vanity Publisher, but you will still pay far more than you should have and receive almost no marketing assistance. Co-publishers mark up their services to ridiculously high prices. Using a subsidy publisher you may very well end up paying hundreds of dollars per hour just to have your project worked on by a part-time student. Shared publishing: A balance of personal creativity and professional polish The fourth and only workable option for anyone who feels they have a fine project but is not as yet an established author is Coactive or “Shared Publishing”. Coactive Publishing has been developed and used by Legacy Book Publishing for over twenty years to introduce to the world dozens of wonderful books. The process is incredibly simple and fair. You submit your manuscript or book idea to Legacy Book Publishing for review. Next, in a live or telephone conference we go over the proposed marketing plan for your book. This will include how you feel you can contribute to the introduction of your book to local or national exposure. Often people are amazed at how much promotion can be accomplished simply through their existing network of friends and acquaintances. As part of Shared Publishing you will be asked to purchase for your promotional needs a set number of books. This may be anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand copies. Of course you purchase these books at less than one third the retail price and pocket all of the profit from your personal sales. While you are working on your side of things to promote your book, we at Legacy are introducing your book to all of the major national markets. These include, the major chain bookstores such as Barnes and Noble, independent bookshops, and major internet sales venues such as Amazon. We also directly promote your book on the Legacy Book Publishing website with its own section and web page. Using Shared Publishing, Legacy Book Publishing provides you with the means to accomplish what every writer truly wants, and that is to affect people’s lives with what you have to say. Because you are investing both your creative time and financial support to the project, you of course receive a far greater percentage of profits returned from your book than when published by a mainstream royalty publisher. Legacy authors routinely receive three times the share of gross book profit than offered by mass market publishing houses. If you have a book manuscript or book idea you would like to see brought to published life. Legacy Book Publishing is the place to turn your ideas into action. Features of Legacy Book Publishing
New Author Packages designed to custom fit the author desires and abilities
After you have written your book, every author wonders what needs to be done next. If you want to publish your book, you will need to find a Book Publisher. There may be many Book Publishers (and some printers disguised as publishers) that may be willing to publish your book. By the way, “Published” means more than printed on paper. If that were the case then your homework from grade school would be considered published. That being said, the cost of “Book Publishing” can be enormous for the publisher and sometimes the author, yet insufficient to accomplish the key goal: getting your book into the hands of the readers that would benefit the most from your writing. We believe that everyone has at least one good book in them. However, getting it out of them is sometimes a challenge. We have received manuscripts hand-written on yellow legal pads, typed on an old Royal typewriter, on cassettes, floppy disks, on CD and Flash drive in word document format. Some people had to be interviewed, transcribed, and then have it written for them. With every book, there are varying costs associated with getting the message out of the author and on paper. In every case, we have to evaluate the message the author has to share and determine if Legacy Publishing should publish their book. The first requirement has always been: does this book inspire virtuous character? If the answer is yes, then we select one of the following programs to best get that book into the hands of others that will benefit from your writings. Legacy understands the challenges facing a new author because its president, Gabriel Vaughn, began his publishing career as a new author. His experiences led to the creation of these packages, so the author will accomplish the key objective as well as be included in the whole publishing process. This is the most widely known by the general public about publishing. All costs for editing, design, printing, and marketing are paid by the book publisher and royalties (certain percentage or commission) are paid to the author on the sales of each book. This is the program that is most familiar to prospective authors because the media announces huge “advances” paid to celebrated authors. I equate this to the announcement of lottery winners of large amounts. It barely reflects the greater percentage of those that received little or nothing by doing the same thing. The determination of giving someone an advance on future sales was made by the publisher as a business decision and given to the PR department to make the publisher look good and to create an anticipation for the upcoming book. The business decision to give the advance on sales probably met several criteria not announced with the PR campaign. The author may have a huge following already from previous sales, a ready made market though his/her affiliations through public speaking or a great publicly recognized persona. Rarely is a huge advance paid just because it is well written. Every publisher knows that ultimately it is the public who decides the next best seller, not the desire of the publisher or the author. Legacy Publishing does this type of publishing as part of the normal practice of publishing as we, too, are looking for the next “best seller” in the authors we publish. They, of course, will be under the same scrutiny as other publishers in that we need to be convinced, like anyone else you would approach to make a financial investment in a business venture. Royalty Publishing with Author Purchase Each book has various costs associated with getting published. The greatest costs are printing and marketing. Preparation of the manuscript can get costly depending on the condition of the original manuscript. On the average, less than 2% of manuscripts submitted to publishers are accepted as strictly royalty published. That does not mean the book is unpublishable but merely someone else is a better bet of the publishers money, based on above criteria for the next best seller. Many very well known authors did not do so well on the first book they had published but created a following in the first printing and later reprinted their first books to worldwide acclaim. The business decision to accept a manuscript to royalty publish one book over another may not have been the quality of the writing but merely a slight decision of monetary availability. There is only “so much money to go around” as they say. As stated in other articles by Legacy Publishing, it may be six months before the publisher sees the first dollar of a new books’ sales after being printed because it has to go through the bookstore register, then the wholesaler, then eventually his distributor with terms on each step before the publisher gets paid. If one book looks to have more promise in the retail market for a quicker cash flow return, that may have been the deciding factor. One way that may encourage the publisher to go ahead with a particular book would be for the author to show that they have the passion for their book in that they want to have a vested interest in its success. If the author purchases books from the publisher from the first printing, that would help offset the initial investment from the publisher of the cost of manuscript preparation, editing, cover design, first printing costs, administration of book registration and the initial marketing push. The first person to believe in the value of their book should be the author. It is Legacy’s belief that the author should be very much involved in marketing and promoting their book. You will find that you are a natural salesperson for your book. The author is the best tool in promoting a new book because of their passion that comes with their desire to write the book. Legacy encourages authors to be enthusiastic and involved with the promotion and sales of their books. Some people may have a readily available market, such as professional speakers, presenters, educators or counselors. Listeners to your speech may want to hear more, so book sales go hand in hand with professional presentations. Of course, Legacy will provide new authors with the promotional materials required for attending book signings and sending out announcements of their newly published book to their “warm market,” such as family, friends and colleagues. Therefore, some Legacy authors request copies of their book at the wholesale price for their own promotions. We will offer a substantial discount to the author on any books purchased through us. In this program, authors will buy books for less than book stores buy from the wholesalers which is 40% off retail price. Legacy Publishing tries to make sure that the author will only have to sell half or less of the books purchased to recoup their original purchase of books. The author has no further obligation to buy additional books from future printings but may at the substantial discount price. Meanwhile, Legacy will implement its marketing strategies to sell books in all various markets both wholesale in book stores chains, independent book stores, Amazon, internet retailers or through direct marketing. Depending on the results tested as the best return per investment as to percentage of marketing per sales; each of these sales will return a royalty to the author based on the percentage agreed upon by author and publisher. LEGACY Memoirs—Preserving your Legacy Everybody has a legacy of things they have accomplished or things that they have learned just by living life. We all have our hopes, dreams and aspirations when we start our life. Some are realized while others may be bitter disappointments or maybe it changed along the way. Either way it is your story and your life and we at Legacy Publishing think it should be recorded and preserved in print. We have heard way too many times from family members that they wish they had encouraged someone to write a book about all the great stories they heard from someone who had just passed away. We have programs that help them record their legacy even if they claim that they are not a writer but more of a storyteller. We can record their legacy and transcribe the stories and insert pictures, poems and even favorite recipes. Even if you don’t feel like this will be a book that should grace the shelves of bookstores around the country, it will be a treasure to family members. Many of them share in the bloodline some of the same dreams, aspirations, talents and character traits. Your story may be an inspiration to a relative that reads your story and pursues the dreams that may have been interrupted in your life by circumstances. Each Legacy Memoir is considered unique and will be evaluated individually to determine the cost and time needed to complete the book and print the amount of copies desired to preserve your legacy.
